Swimming Tips!-image

The weather is getting warmer here in Arlington, VA! We always recommend finding ways to keep cool during the summer, which is why we’re sharing some tips on our favorite way to keep cool: swimming. In this week’s Wildwood Towers Apartments Blog, we’re going to share with you some swimming tips to keep you safe! Dress Appropriately When you’re headed out to enjoy a day at the local pool, make sure you’re dressed for the occasion. Make sure you’re dressed in swimwear instead of jeans or any other non-appropriate clothing. This may seem like a silly tip, but there are many unfortunate accidents that happen because people aren’t dressed correctly. Although it isn’t clothing, make sure you wear enough sunscreen!  Take a Rest Swimming is a full body exercise and it can get tiring if you’ve been swimming for an extended period of time. Avoid cramps and the potential for a drowning incident by taking a rest. Do yourself a favor and lay out by the side of the pool and get some sun instead of splashing around for hours without rest. If you have children with you, ensure that they too are taking adequate breaks from swimming.  Don’t Swim Alone  As much as you may trust your swimming capabilities, we recommend not swimming alone. Having someone else with you will make it more fun, but also you’ll have someone else there to aid you if you happen to experience cramps or a situation that could lead to drowning. Invite your friends or family to spend a fun and exciting day with you at the pool.    Do you have any swimming tips you’d like to share with our apartment community? Leave us a comment so that we can keep safe at the pool! Thanks for reading.

Summer starts this month, so to get you in the mood for the sunny skies and warm weather, we are sharing some classic summer movies in this week’s Wildwood Towers Apartments Blog. If you work full time or are going to school full time you may feel like you’d be missing out on all the joys of summer, but you can live vicariously through the characters in these iconic movies! Wet Hot American Summer “Set on the last day of camp, in the hot summer of 1981, "Wet Hot American Summer" follows a group of counselors who are each trying to complete their unfinished business before the day ends. The entire summer of pent-up sexual frustrations, unresolved post-traumatic stress, pending separations and of course, the talent show, all weigh heavily on the minds and groins of counselors and campers alike.” Dirty Dancing “Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she's disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort's dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby's father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she's determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.” Weekend at Bernie’s “Fun-loving salesmen Richard (Jonathan Silverman) and Larry (Andrew McCarthy) are invited by their boss, Bernie (Terry Kiser), to stay the weekend at his posh beach house. Little do they know that Bernie is the perpetrator of a fraud they've uncovered and is arranging to have them killed. When the plan backfires and Bernie is killed instead, the buddies decide not to let a little death spoil their vacation. They pretend Bernie is still alive, leading to hijinks and corpse desecration galore.”   Settle into your Arlington, VA apartment and crank the air conditioning to enjoy some iconic and classic summer movies. There are plenty of other movies, so leave us a comment with your favorites today!

National Barbecue Month-image

Did you know that May is National Barbecue Month? The weather is getting warmer, which makes it a perfect time to strike up a grill and dig into some delicious barbecue fare. It can be difficult to host a barbecue, as there are so many things to consider. In this week’s Wildwood Towers Apartments Blog, we’ll share with you some tips on how you can host a great barbecue! Essentials It’s not a great feeling when you’re just about finished with grilling your food at a barbecue and you find out that you’ve forgotten plates to put your food on. We recommend making a list of your essential items and double checking it the night before! If you aren’t sure what to bring, here’s a list of essentials to consider: Plates Utensils (for serving and eating) Cups Napkins Trash bags Food The food you’re going to be grilling up is the star of the show, so you should pay extra attention to the recipes you’re using! There are plenty of recipes out there, so find the ones you like and give them a try. If you’re inviting others over to your barbecue, make sure that you’ve got enough food for everyone to have a healthy serving. If it’s too much for you to prepare all the food yourself, invite your guests to bring a dish to share. Making it a potluck allows everyone to participate and contribute to the event. Entertainment What happens after the food has been devoured and everyone’s full? Instead of sending everyone home, use the time after the meal to catch up with the friends you’ve invited, play some music, or even throw the football around. Enjoy the warmer weather and the time with your friends! Do you have any tips for throwing an awesome barbecue during National Barbecue Month?
